Position Overview   
Under the direction of the Senior Director and in collaboration with the Administration Team, the Associate Director of Communications will implement the development and growth of innovative and inviting marketing and communications strategies that support the staff, volunteers, and ministries of United Catholic Youth Ministries. This position is a senior level position and supervises a coordinator of digital community building.    
  
Duties and Responsibilities  
Communication  
  • Oversee creation and implementation of a weekly email blast through Flocknote.  
  • Oversee creation and implementation of a weekly email to parish and other community organizations to promote UCYM events.  
  • Act as a liaison for promoting UCYM events and programs to the parishes, schools, and other organizations. 
  • Assist the Associate Director of Operations with internal communications with staff and volunteer leaders.   
Marketing  
  • Oversee production of flyers (print and digital) to promote UCYM events, programs, and other opportunities. 
  • Advise the Senior Director on website development. 
  • Be present for events for the purpose of promoting UCYM.  
Digital Community Building  
  • Oversee bimonthly podcast organization and team. 
  • Oversee management of social media accounts.  
Team Leader Duties  
  • Oversee a communications calendar that helps in scheduling what is communicated, when, and on which platforms.   
  • Oversee and manage a tasks chart for Communications Team members in collaboration with the Associate Director of Operations.  
  • Organize regular meetings with the Communications Team.  
  • Attend meetings with the operations team and administration team.  
Other duties as discussed and agreed upon.   
   
Candidate Requirements  
  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications, digital media, or a related field from an accredited college or university.  
  • Bilingual English and Spanish.  
  • Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office 365.  
  • Must be an excellent communicator, detail-oriented and self-motivated.  
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with a wide variety of people, including lay ministers, college students, pastors, volunteers, and persons with varied social, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.  
  • Access to consistent transportation; availability for evening and weekend work.

Communications Intern

This position is an unpaid internship and intended for applicants who are in high school.

Position Overview 
Under the direction of the Senior Director and in collaboration with the Administration Team, the Director of Social Work will provide support, training, and resources for ongoing social work support for members of the UCYM community and parishes. 

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work with the administration in identifying possible clients who might benefit from counseling or other mental health services.
  • Coordinate billing on a sliding scale directly with clients.
  • Make referrals to outside resources or organizations when needed.
  • Provide workshops and other training for staff, leadership, and the community.
  • Maintains appropriate records.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as discussed and agreed upon.

Candidate Requirements
  • Master's in social work.
  • Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office 365.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people, including lay ministers, college students, pastors, volunteers, and persons with varied social, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.

Coordinator, Youth Ministry

Position Overview 
Under the direction of the Administration Team with direct supervision from the Associate Director of Mission and Ministry, the Coordinator of Youth Ministry will provide opportunities for youth to encounter Christ, build community, and experience discipleship that align with the priorities of the local Roman Catholic Church in Evanston, Archdiocese of Chicago, and Evanston community. 

Duties and Responsibilities
Youth Group
  • Create and implement plans for weekly youth group activities. 
  • Oversee implementation of service opportunities. 
Leadership Academy (LA)
  • Provide support to LA group leaders and teams. 
  • Create and implement faith formation curriculum in collaboration with youth ministry volunteer leaders. 
  • Manage tracking of program requirements. 
Liturgy
  • Collaborate on creating regular opportunities for youth to experience liturgical ministry and liturgy through Youth Masses, liturgical ministry service, and other liturgies. 
Administrative
  • Maintain records from retreats, events, and other youth opportunities. 
  • Organize youth ministry team meetings in collaboration with the associate director of mission and ministry.
  • Supervise and provide support to volunteer youth ministers.
Other duties and responsibilities as discussed and agreed upon.

Candidate Requirements
  • At least 2-3 years' experience in youth ministry, campus ministry, or other faith formation-based ministry leadership.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish.
  • Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office 365.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people, including lay ministers, college students, pastors, volunteers, and persons with varied social, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.

Volunteer Opportunities

For Teens

Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLW) Assistant
CLW Helpers assist the adult catechists with overall care of children during CLW sessions. CLW is dismissed during Sunday Mass after the Opening Prayer before the First Reading and returns after the Intercessions. To volunteer or learn more, contact us at clw@ucym.org.
Liturgical Ministers
Teens who confirmed, fully initiated in the Catholic Church, are able to fully participate in liturgical ministries. Liturgical Ministries include Lectors (proclaimers of the Word), Ushers/Greeters, Sacristans, Altar Servers/Acolytes, Eucharistic (Communion) Ministers, and Music Ministers (voice or instrument). The only ministry that teens who are not confirmed cannot participate in until they are confirmed is Eucharistic Ministry. Youth Minister
A youth minister's primary responsibilities are to be a pastoral leader and embody and model what it means to be church in the parishes UCYM serves. To learn more or to get started, contact James Holzhauer-Chuckas, ObSB at james@ucym.org.
Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLW) Catechist

Leader-in-Training (LIT) Mentor
Leader-in-Training (LIT) mentors are adults who want to commit to accompanying a rising youth leader through a year-long formation program. Advisory Board Member
​​The UCYM Advisory Board is a multi-parish board that advises the UCYM staff on programs that will best serve our communities. The board meets to discuss and evaluate the effectiveness of UCYM in the parishes, parish grouping, and wider community twice a year. Diversity Council Member
