Opportunities to Get Involved

UCYM offers a wide range of meaningful and flexible volunteer opportunities for individuals who desire to serve youth and young adults through mission-driven leadership and collaboration.

All volunteer candidates must demonstrate the following:
  • A sincere desire to grow in understanding and practice of:
    • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
    • Catholic Social Teaching
  • A passion for working with and on behalf of young people.
  • A commitment to collaborative teamwork and shared leadership.
  • Willingness to complete and pass a criminal background check and remain compliant with all child protection and safe environment requirements.
  • The ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse range of individuals, including lay ministers, college students, clergy, volunteers, and persons of varied social, ethnic, cultural, and ability backgrounds.
  • A clear commitment to supporting and living out the Gospel message.

Board Officers
Terms Ending October 2026
President
The President serves as the chief volunteer officer of the Board of Directors, providing faithful, mission-centered leadership to advance the organization’s Catholic identity and its service to youth and young adults. The President ensures that the board fulfills its governance responsibilities with integrity, strategic clarity, and accountability. The President works closely with and provides oversight to the Executive Director, who reports directly to this role. Through regular communication, evaluation, and support, the President ensures that organizational leadership, operations, and ministry initiatives align with the board’s policies and the mission of the Church.

Vice President
The Vice President serves on the Board of Directors as a key leadership partner to the Board President, supporting the overall governance, strategic direction, and mission advancement of the organization. Rooted in a commitment to Catholic identity and service to youth and young adults, the Vice President helps ensure the board operates effectively, collaboratively, and in alignment with its mission.

Corporate Treasurer
​The Corporate Treasurer serves on the Board of Directors as the officer responsible for overseeing the financial stewardship and fiscal integrity of the organization in alignment with its Catholic mission. Grounded in principles of transparency, accountability, and faithful stewardship, the Treasurer helps ensure that financial resources are managed wisely to support effective ministry to youth and young adults. The Treasurer collaborates closely with the Associate Executive Director for Finance and Operations to review budgets, monitor financial performance, ensure appropriate internal controls, and support the preparation of financial reports for the board. 

Corporate Secretary
The Corporate Secretary serves on the Board of Directors as the officer responsible for ensuring strong governance, transparency, and organizational integrity in alignment with the ministry’s Catholic mission and nonprofit obligations. This role safeguards accurate record-keeping and supports the board in fulfilling its fiduciary and legal responsibilities.

Development Officer
​The Development Officer serves on the Board of Directors as a strategic partner in advancing the organization’s mission through sustainable fundraising and resource development. Rooted in stewardship and the Gospel call to generosity, this officer supports the cultivation of donors, partnerships, and funding opportunities that strengthen and expand ministry to youth and young adults.

Institutional Belonging Officer
The Institutional Belonging Officer serves on the Board of Directors as a mission-driven leader committed to ensuring that the ministry reflects the Gospel call to radical hospitality, human dignity, and communion. Grounded in Catholic Social Teaching and the Church’s vision for accompaniment, this officer helps the board cultivate a culture where young people and ministry leaders from diverse backgrounds feel seen, valued, and fully welcomed into the life of the organization. This role provides strategic oversight to ensure that governance, programming, partnerships, and communications embody authentic belonging—especially for youth and young adults who may feel on the margins of Church or society. The Institutional Belonging Officer advises the board on inclusive leadership development, equitable access to programs, intercultural competency, and alignment with the Church’s call to unity in diversity.

Chief Legal Officer
The Chief Legal Officer serves on the Board of Directors as the principal advisor on legal, regulatory, and governance matters affecting the organization. Committed to protecting the ministry’s integrity and Catholic mission, this officer helps ensure that the organization operates in full compliance with applicable laws, nonprofit regulations, and ethical standards. The Chief Legal Officer collaborates with board leadership and senior staff to proactively identify legal risks and recommend safeguards that protect the organization’s mission, reputation, and long-term sustainability.
Voting Board Member Seats
5 Current Vacancies
​Voting Members of the Board of Directors serve as entrusted stewards of the organization’s mission, governance, and long-term sustainability. Board Members provide strategic leadership by helping set vision, establish policies and procedures, ensure fiduciary oversight, and advance the ministry’s impact in serving youth and young adults.

Responsibilities include participating actively in board meetings, contributing to strategic planning, supporting fundraising and development efforts, and upholding the organization’s Catholic identity and values. Voting Members collaborate with fellow board members and staff leadership to ensure strong governance, accountability, and mission alignment.

​Candidates for Voting Membership must be affirmed by a majority vote of the current Board of Directors in accordance with the organization’s bylaws.
Auxiliary Board Members
​Auxiliary Board Members serve as non-voting contributors who participate in a designated board working group to support the implementation and advancement of specific areas of the organization’s ministry and administration. This role allows individuals to offer their expertise, leadership, and insight while collaborating closely with board members and staff.
​
Auxiliary Members serve within one of the following working groups:
  • Faith Formation & Evangelization
  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging
  • Finance Council*

Through research, strategy development, project support, and collaborative planning, Auxiliary Members strengthen the organization’s capacity to serve youth and young adults effectively and sustainably.
​
*Members of the Finance Council working group are eligible to vote on board matters in accordance with organizational bylaws.
Spiritual Advisors
The Spiritual Advisor serves on the Board of Directors as a clergy member or vowed religious who supports the spiritual, pastoral, and sacramental life of the organization. Rooted in fidelity to the Church and a heart for young people, the Spiritual Advisor helps ensure that the ministry remains grounded in prayer, discernment, and communion with the wider Church.

Responsibilities include offering spiritual guidance to board and staff leadership, supporting liturgical and sacramental moments within the ministry, and encouraging a culture of discernment and vocational awareness. The Spiritual Advisor also helps promote vocations to priesthood, religious life, and lay ecclesial ministry among youth and young adults connected to the organization.

Director, Accompaniment and Co-Builders Ministry
The Director of Accompaniment & Co-Builders Ministry serves as the strategic and relational leader responsible for cultivating partnerships, forming leaders, and building sustainable ministry ecosystems that center young people.

​This role advances UCYM’s mission by walking alongside partner organizations through intentional accompaniment and collaborative program development. Grounded in Catholic Social Teaching and a deep commitment to belonging, the Director ensures that UCYM programs are co-created with — not merely for — young people, especially those from historically marginalized communities.

This role requires a relational leader who is pastoral, entrepreneurial, and systems-oriented — someone who can build trust, design frameworks, and mobilize communities toward shared mission.
Director, Communications
​The Director of Communications provides strategic leadership for the organization’s outreach, messaging, and brand presence in service of its Catholic mission to youth and young adults. This role oversees the development, execution, and evaluation of comprehensive communication strategies that engage ministry leaders, young people, donors, and partners.
​
Responsibilities include managing and optimizing all major communication platforms, including Flocknote (email communications), social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and emerging platforms), and the organization’s website. The Director ensures consistent, mission-aligned messaging across all channels, strengthens digital engagement, and supports storytelling that highlights the impact of the ministry. Through creative direction and strategic planning, this leader advances visibility, participation, and community connection.
Manager, Digital Evangelization
The Digital Evangelization Manager serves as a creative and mission-driven leader who discerns and implements innovative ways to proclaim the Gospel through the organization’s digital presence. Inspired by the Church’s call to evangelize in the digital continent, this role strategically leverages online platforms to reach, accompany, and form youth and young adults.
​

Responsibilities include collaborating closely with the Communications and Podcast teams to ensure cohesive, mission-aligned digital content; developing evangelization strategies across social media and emerging platforms; and mentoring and supporting ministry-based social media influencers. The Digital Evangelization Manager helps cultivate authentic Catholic voices online, ensuring that digital engagement fosters meaningful encounters with Christ and deeper connection to the life of the Church.
Coordinator, Podcast Program
​The Podcast Program Coordinator partners with the Program Director to implement and sustain the organization’s podcast initiatives in service of evangelization and youth formation. This role supports the planning, production, and distribution of podcast content that reflects the ministry’s Catholic identity and mission.
​
Responsibilities include coordinating recording schedules, assisting with guest outreach and preparation, managing episode logistics, supporting content planning, and ensuring timely publication across platforms. The Podcast Program Coordinator collaborates with communications and digital teams to promote episodes effectively and helps ensure that each podcast offering fosters meaningful faith conversations and engagement among youth and young adults.
Coordinator, Development (Grant Writing)
​The Development Coordinator for Grant Writing advances the organization’s mission by securing grant funding to sustain annual operations and support strategic program growth. Rooted in stewardship and mission-driven development, this role identifies, researches, and pursues grant opportunities aligned with the ministry’s priorities in serving youth and young adults.
​
Responsibilities include drafting and submitting compelling grant proposals, managing grant calendars and deadlines, collaborating with leadership to gather program data and impact metrics, and preparing required reports for foundations and funding partners. The Development Coordinator works closely with the Board of Director's Development Officer and senior leadership to ensure that grant funding strengthens both the annual budget and long-term project development, supporting the organization’s continued growth and impact.

Youth Ministers
Youth Ministers serve as dedicated companions to young people, supporting them through the various programs and initiatives offered by the ministry. Rooted in a love for Christ and the Church, Youth Ministers generously share their time and gifts to accompany youth as they grow in faith, leadership, and community.
​
Responsibilities may include mentoring, small group facilitation, retreat support, event leadership, and participation in formation experiences. Volunteer Youth Ministers model authentic discipleship, create safe and welcoming environments, and help foster meaningful relationships that guide young people in deepening their relationship with God and the life of the Church.
Podcast Team Members
Podcast Team Members support the ministry’s podcast initiatives by contributing their unique gifts and skills to help produce engaging, faith-filled content for youth and young adults. As part of the podcast team, volunteers collaborate in a variety of roles depending on interest and expertise.

Opportunities include graphic design, audio and video editing, researching topics and potential guests, assisting with show planning, and serving as episode hosts or co-hosts. Through creativity, collaboration, and a shared commitment to evangelization, Volunteer Podcast Team Members help bring meaningful Catholic conversations to life and expand the ministry’s digital outreach.
Social Media Strategists and Influencers
Social Media Strategists & Influencers supports the Communications Team by helping to grow and energize the organization’s digital presence in service of evangelization and youth engagement. This role combines creativity, research, and authentic online witness to foster meaningful connection with young people and ministry leaders.
​
Responsibilities include researching trends, contributing content ideas, creating mission-aligned posts, and sharing engaging stories across social media platforms. Volunteers also model positive digital discipleship by amplifying the ministry’s message through their own networks, helping expand reach and deepen engagement with the Catholic youth and young adult community.
Accompaniment Leader
​The Accompaniment Leader serves as a relational and mission-focused partner who walks alongside organizational partners and ministry sites to strengthen and co-build effective programming. Reporting to the Associate Executive Director for Mission and Ministry, this role embodies the Church’s call to accompaniment by fostering collaboration, trust, and shared vision.
​
Responsibilities include supporting partner sites in program development and implementation, offering formation and coaching, listening deeply to local needs, and helping align initiatives with the organization’s mission and Catholic identity. The Accompaniment Leader cultivates sustainable relationships that empower partners to grow vibrant ministries for youth and young adults.
